DIY Marble Tray

by - June 15, 2019

Lately, I've been collecting marble decorations around my home.  I've been wanting a marble tray for quite some time now and haven't been able to find one I like. The other day, I was looking around my parent's home and found a broken marble piece in their backyard. Quickly, an idea sparked in my head, to use the marble piece to make the tray! At first, I was trying to go for a rectangle shape. Unfortunately, I ended up breaking more than expected and was left with a unique piece instead.

1. Cleaning The Marble.

First, I cleaned the marble with a rag, damped it in water to remove any dirt.

2.) Measuring.

As mentioned above I originally wanted a rectangle shape, so I measured the length and width according to that shape.

3.) Hammer Time.

Finally, it was time to shape the tray. I knew if I wasn't careful, I would wreck the whole thing in a matter of seconds, and that's exactly what happened.

Very carefully, I tried to shape the marble with the hammer, but unfortunately, I decided to pick up the pace and ended up breaking too much off, enough to ruin the whole shape. 😔

  • After breaking off more than I wanted. I realized I still had a decent size piece leftover I could still work with. All I did was polish the sides by gently tapping the edges with the hammer  (trust me I learned my lesson.)

4.) Painting The Edges.

I used a makeup sponge and gold metallic paint to paint along the edges.

 The Final Result.

Here is the final look, I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out! See you guys next time...
