DIY Decorative Book Stack

by - March 04, 2020

If you're always on the lookout for cute but inexpensive home decor items to decorate your home with, then you came to the right spot. For today's project, I'll be showing you a simple DIY on how to transform any old books into farmhouse-inspired decorative book stacks that are perfect for spring. A few months ago, I purchased a couple books from the dollar tree and finally thought it was time to give them a fresh new look, so let's get crafting!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

  • Any hardcover books (preferably old)
  • Alphabet Stamps
  • Ink Pad
  • Paint
  • Sponge Brush
  • Twine

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.) Begin by covering your workspace. Then start painting each book with one thick layer of chalk paint, allow it to dry completely before applying the second coat.

  • Add enough paint to the spine of the books until the letters are no longer visible.

  • If you happen to run into the same problem as me, and the letters on the side of the book are still noticeable.
  •  You can cut a piece of thick paper, the size of the spine of the book, and glue it either with a hot glue gun or mod podge.

2.) If you'd like, you can go ahead and paint the edges on the inside of the books too.

3.) Allow the books to dry thoroughly for at least 1 hour.

4.) Once the books have dried completely, you can stamp on a personalized quote on the spine of the books.

  • TIP: You can always practice on a blank sheet of paper first before stamping on the books.
  • I wasn't too worried if the letters didn't come out perfectly, I actually liked it that way.

5.) OPTIONAL: Decorating the books with a decorative ribbon, twine, or flowers.

  • Stack the books, take a piece of twine and wrap the books together.

HERE ARE THE END RESULTS, I LOVE HOW CUTE THEY TURNED OUT.
I HOPE YOU LIKED TODAY'S CRAFT TOO, AND DECIDE TO TRY IT OUT!
